How To Apply Glitter Gel Nails
Party season is approaching, which means it’s time to get glitzy and glamorous, and nothing says glitz like a gorgeous glitter manicure. Let’s say you’re rocking your favourite LBD and a fancy new pair of shoes; your hair is salon-fresh and you feel like a million dollars. Wouldn’t it be a shame if your nails let the side down? Sure, there are loads of snazzy ways to glam up your nails, but nothing beats the eye-catching shimmer of a well-executed glitter manicure.
There’s a problem though - achieving prefect glitter nails can be a bit of a challenge. Get the application right and a glitter mani looks amazing, but it’s all too easy to get it a bit wrong and end up with a gloopy, uneven look that sparkles in all the wrong ways.
We firmly believe that home manis are way easier than many salon goers imagine, but when it comes to glitter nails, a bit of extra know-how can make all the difference. Luckily, we’re here to share the secret of immaculate glitter nails with you, and the good news is that it’s easy-peasy when you know how. Here’s how:
Step 1: File the free edge of your nails. This is your chance to define the shape of your nails before you embark on your mani. The most common shapes are square, round, oval and squoval. Gels can last between 2-3 weeks, so make sure the free edge is even in length.
Step 2: Soak your nails in warm water for a few minutes to ensure they’re nice and soft, then gently push your cuticles back using an orange stick to create space for your manicure.
Step 3: Using a nail buffing block, gently buff the nail surface to remove any shine – you’re aiming to prime the surface of your nails by removing shine and creating a surface that gel nail polish will grip onto.
Step 4: Prepare your nails using mylee Prep & Wipe to create a more adhesive surface. Prep & Wipe is a dual-purpose product that sanitises the nail plate while preparing the perfect surface for long-lasting gel polish adhesion.
Step 5: Paint on a Base Coat. Take care to apply the base coat as closely as possible to the edges of your nails, without touching the cuticles. A good base coat is vital if you want your manicure to last.
Step 7: Once the base coat has cured, apply a thin layer of glitter gel polish. Try to spread the glitter particles evenly across the nail bed. You can use an orange stick to move the glitter specks around to have more control over where it spreads. Cure then repeat the same process for the second coat.
