Sometimes, it's the simpler things in life that bring us the most joy. And we think the same goes for Christmas manis. If you're searching for subtle Christmas nail design inspiration, we've got lots of ideas that'll help you get in the holiday spirit.

Not everyone enjoys gimmicky or whimsical nails at this time of year. If you're more of an understated nail art fan, we've had a nosey at what celebs have been wearing and found some gorgeous festive manis that are anything but boring.

We've added a few nail tips, tricks and product recommendations to make them even easier to replicate, too.

Kylie Jenner's Burgundy French Tips

Taking it back to last Christmas, Kylie went for a subtle yet glam French tip mani in dark burgundy. Dark nail colours are set to be big again this Christmas, so we're definitely taking note of this look for this year.

Our Take on Kylie's Burgundy French Tips

To recreate this festive mani, we recommend using our Dystopia Gel Polish from our latest AW collection. It's the perfect dupe for the shade Kylie can be seen wearing.

She's also chosen a nude gel polish for her base colour that's slightly lighter than her natural skin tone. For the same look, our Exposé Gel Polish is a great choice. If you have a lighter or darker skin tone, choose a nude tone that's one or two shades lighter than your natural pigment from our nude gels range.

Stacey Solomon's Chrome Snowflake Nail Art

Everyone's favourite TV mum, Stacey Solomon, showcased these beautiful holiday nails last season, and we're most definitely going to be recreating them! They feature a combo of glitter, chrome and snowflakes for a truly festive look.

Our Take on Stacey's Snowflake Nail Art

There are a fair few different products used to create the Christmas nail art designs in this look, so we've listed out our best dupes for each one:

Hailey Bieber's Red French Mani

Another French mani, you ask? Sure, why not! Hailey Bieber has chosen a cherry red nail polish for the tips of her nails and a clear nude base. Of course, red is a classic Christmas nail colour, so it’s no surprise it’s making an appearance.

Our Take on Hailey's Red French Manicure

To achieve the red shade, we recommend our French Cancan Gel Polish – it matches that same fiery undertone as seen on Hailey's nails.

Our 5-in-1 Builder Gel in Clear is a fantastic option for the clear base. You can also use the Builder Gel to sculpt out your nails into the same nail shape and length as Hailey's if you want to mirror her look.

Lily Allen's Wavy Candy Cane Nail Art

This look is a little more out there but still pretty subtle. Lily Allen's mani has a candy cane feel to it and incorporates classic Christmas red, green, white and gold in a pretty unexpected way. We think this Christmas nail art would work beautifully on a few accent nails, too.

For the chrome colours, we'll definitely be reaching for our Cushion Powder Pens in Gold and Magic Potion for the gold and green colours. Use our Break The Ice Gel Polish for the white waves and a nude gel polish for the base that most closely matches your skin tone.

A fine nail art brush will be your best friend for recreating this look so you can get really precise with the design. A 9mm or 7mm brush will do the job best.

Shay Mitchell's Silver Chrome Nails

Chrome nails at Christmastime are always a classic, and Shay Mitchell's mani is exactly what we're envisioning. A shimmery silver chrome look is perfect to take you from day to night and is definitely not over the top.

Our Take on Shay's Silver Chrome Nails

Our Cushion Powder Pen in Silver is essential for recreating this look. Buff the chrome pigment in a cured No Wipe Top Coat over a black gel nail polish base – like our Stalker Gel Polish – for an exact replica of Shay's look.

If silver isn't your thing, you can definitely switch it up with different chrome shades, like gold, purple or green.

Green Chrome Stars Nail Art by @nailsbymh

Manicurist to celebs like Rita Ora, Jodie Comer and Dua Lipa, Michelle Humphrey, AKA NailsbyMH, created an incredible green chrome star look. It's the perfect balance between subtle and festive – we're definitely going to be trying this one out.

Our Take on These Chrome Stars Nail Art

Our 5-in-1 Builder Gel in Clear is a must-have for this look, both to create the clear gel base and to shape your nails, as Michelle has done.

For the green chrome stars, we recommend using our Cushion Powder Pen in Dragon Egg. Use a nail art brush dipped in a black gel polish to draw the star nail art onto your Builder Gel base.

Once you've flash cured, take your nail art brush and dip it into your No Wipe Top Coat, tracing over the black stars you've just drawn. Flash cure again. Buff the chrome pigment from the pen into the top coat, and you'll be left with a beautiful chrome star look!

Our Roundup of Subtle Christmas Nail Designs for 2023

If you're not one to flaunt bright green Christmas tree nail art and prefer a more subtle nod to the season, these subtle Christmas nails are just the thing.

Use our gel polishes and nail art essentials to replicate the designs, or put your own twist on them. However you choose to wear them, our gel polishes will help you achieve a celeb-worthy mani that lasts up to 3 weeks with no chips or nicks.

You can shop the looks above or head on over to our Christmas collection, where you'll find all the latest gel nail goodies and exclusive seasonal shades.

FAQs

What nails are easiest to do at Christmas?

Chrome nails are super easy to do and look great in festive Christmas nail colours like green, silver and gold. Apply a layer of No Wipe Top Coat over a cured black gel polish and cure. Buff the chrome pigment of our Cushion Powder Pens into the top coat layer. Finish by applying another layer of No Wipe Top Coat to seal in the chrome design, and cure for 30-60 seconds under our Pro LED Lamp.

Do Christmas nails have to have a Christmas theme?

Not at all; you can create any kind of design you like – as gimmicky or as subtle as you like!

What gel polish colours can I use for Christmas nails that aren't red or green?

Silver and gold glitter gel polishes are, of course, a classic at Christmas. However, if you want to step away from the traditions entirely, opt for deeper and bolder winter shades. Dark purple and navy blue are set to be big this year, alongside reflective and holographic shades.
Our The Fairground Gel Polish Quad is a must-have for Christmas 2023, featuring plum, holographic black, off-white and sheer gold polishes – it's the perfect combo of classic and chic.
